I’ve been holding out on you. Though it wasn’t intentional.
Remember Bitchin’ Sauce, the original version? Conceived 3.25 months ago. Well, she has a sister. And her name is Chipotle. It’s never good to play favorites, but she might just be mine. Her personality is bold and spicy. But she’s not the overbearing type. I think you’ll like her.
PrintSide note: Sometimes my friend Genesis and I do Bitchin’ Sauce demonstrations during our lunch hour at work. It’s completely normal. In fact, I think we have found our true calling in life. Costco and the State Fair should be calling us any day now. It’s only a matter of time. The blenders are packed and the recipe is ready.
If i want to use chipotle powder instead, how much would i use?
Thanks
Delish! And very forgiving. I forgot all the oil and it still turned out delicious.
A tip for this + the original recipe – add a tsp of around flaxseeds and it won’t separate. Their mildly nutty / cramy taste blends right in and I don’t notice it al all.

*ground flaxseed
Made it today! Not sure what the market one is supposed to taste like, but I really like it! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Can I make this with almond flour or does it need to be whole almonds?
I’m guessing you can, but I’m not sure the amount you’d need in place of the whole almonds. Let me know if you end up trying it!
I’ve been making the chipotle bitchin sauce from this recipe for about a year now and every time Costco has a tasting of bitchin sauce, all I can think after sampling theirs is how much better this recipe is! My husband and I are addicted! And for anyone trying to avoid soy, the coconut aminos work in place of Braggs! Thank you for this recipe – WE LOVE IT!
I’m so happy to hear this! Thanks for writing.
Made it and it’s delicious! Thank you. A friend brings this back whenever he’s in San Diego- -and yours is perfect.
I really want to try the bitchin’ sauce as a buffalo flavor. 🙂 mmm… Any ideas as to how to change the recipe?
I’m a Bitchin’ fan too! My fav is the Cilantro Chili version. Oh, do my tastebuds dance and sing to me when I eat it. Please, please give us that recipe too!!!
I appreciate you so mucho! I had just came back from San Diego’s Farmers Market and found out that they don’t sell the Bitchin Sauce in TX. Thank you for recreating this.
Melissa,
Thanks for this….we have made all of the iterations and love each in their own way. We came to Bitchin’ Sauce from a friend who is a nurse and has good taste, so of course completely stoked to find the recipe! It lives in our Paprika App on heavy rotation.
We’ ve made your version of Bitchin Sauce after visiting the La Jolla farmers market last summer. Thank You! We can’t get this in Boston! I only have a regular blender so I usually soak the almonds overnight to get the right texture. However, I needed the B Sauce lightening fast, so I blanched the almonds by boiling them for 30 secs, cooling and rubbing the skins off. Threw it all in the blender. Perfect!!!
For the Chipotle in adobe sauce, how many ounces is the can? At my local grocer this is a 7oz can but that seems like a lot of peppers to add to your original recipe. Thanks.
Hey David! I don’t have a can on hand to check, but I just use one pepper in addition to the original recipe. Hope this helps!
I’ve made this numerous times and it is amazing! Anyone that I have fed it to has also loved it! Thanks so much!
Are the onions raw? Or should I cook them first? White? Yellow? Halp!
Yep, raw. No fuss for this recipe. I typically use sweet onions in everything for their calmer flavor but you can use another type if you wish.
Thanks so much! Now if you could only hack the recipe for Food For Lovers Vegan Queso, I’d be eternally grateful!
I was at the La Jolla Farmers Market yesterday and this sauce again. It is amazingly good! Stoked you figured out how to replicate and shared it!!! I have a whole bunch of basil ready to harvest and vowed to come home and make the pesto version. I don’t see a recipe for that but will see if I can adapt using the chipotle portions? If you’ve since conjured the green incarnation do share! = )
Yes please to the pesto AND the cilantro Chile versions?!?
I wanna try the Bitchn sauce soo bad but I am allergic to almonds. 🙁
Bummer!! I can’t think of a substitution off the top of my head. Although you may be able to make it dairy based and add plain yogurt or sour cream for a similar flavor. Nix the water.
Maybe chickpeas could substitute the almonds?
Cashews work just as well. I omit the oil though so you may need to lessen it or omit.
I live in San Diego and buy this sauce every week at the Farmer’s Market in Pacific Beach. I’m excited to try and make this at home.
I just made your bitchin’ sauce recipe after falling in love with the original on our last trip to the del mar farmers market. Anyhow, you nailed it. My hubby is eternally grateful for you!
First of all, I love the sound of this sauce. Secondly, how cute do you look in demo mode?? I could totally imagine drizzling some of this on tacos!
NEED this. Bowl food is my favourite thing ever. And sauce is the game changer in that situation for sure. Especially if it’s bitchin’.
Hahaha, this made me laugh so much. I love chipotle. I eat it in chicken wraps all the time. Soooo delicious. I have to try making it myself now!
This sauce sounds delicious! I also love that you do demonstrations at work – simply amazing!
Love, love, love this!
Love this! You should really think about bottling and selling your sauce. Yumm!
Pretty sure you could put “chipotle” before any edible item, and I’d like it more. This is certainly no exception.
OMG. YES.
I have to try it.
I’m all about recipes that call for three ingredients.
Love the spice of chipotle. And I second the call for a video!
What a crack up – you should come to my work and do demonstrations 🙂 I love chipotle…I’m all over this bitchin sauce!
I’m going to have to try this out! And, if you are doing demonstrations at work, I really think a video is in order. I would love to see this.
1) I still need to try your original bitchin’ sauce.
2) Then I’m trying your chipotle bitchin’ sauce.
3) My dad looooves saying, “bitchiiinnnnn,” like Steve Martin does in Father of the Bride.
My husband and I are a sucker for spicy food. Where can you buy the canned adobe sauce? I know of the powder but not the can.
I bought it at Whole Foods but I’ve seen it elsewhere. I think they usually keep it in the mexican food section.

Here it is on Amazon, guaranteed cheaper than Whole Paycheck. 🙂
