To bring butter to room temperature quicker, cut it into tablespoons or cubes. The more surface area you expose, the faster it will reach the desired temperature. The same method holds true when melting butter over the stove or in the microwave.

Hi! A great tip is to cut the butter in cubes and put them in a bowl with lukewarm water for a minute and then there perfectly soft. Just get rid of the water and then use the butter! By the way, I love your blog!
I’ll have to give that a try. Not gonna lie, I’ve done the 10 seconds in the microwave here and there trick, if you can even call it a trick. It usually ends badly 🙂
Hey Melissa! It also works well to stand the stick up (in the wrapper) on the small end as more of it is exposed to air (if you need a full stick kept intact).

Great idea! I always forgot about bringing it to room temperature so I usually resort to the microwave and then end up with melted butter. womp. womp.
Been there, done that, still do that. I’ll never learn.
I am going to try this method. Thank you for sharing!
It never seems you can get the butter to room temperature quick enough.
i have also heard rubbing them with your palms help soften it faster, havent tried it yet though but cutting it always helps.

Hi Mary Lynn! This is genius. Another way to expose more surface area. And another, how-did-I-not-think-of-that-before moment. Hope you are well.
