They say there’s blizzard-like conditions coming to the northeast on Friday. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. For ending work early. Warming up to a mug of hot chocolate. And making every excuse to stay inside under a blanket. We’ll make homemade pizza just like we always do on Friday nights. Skipping the tomato sauce for leftover winter pesto this time. And rent a couple Red Box movies. At least that’s how I envision it.
Or it may go more like working well past quitting time. Over zealous weather predictions. Dry sidewalks. A load of laundry. And a Nalgene full of water. But either way, homemade pizza will be involved. It’s tradition. No matter what blows into town. Good week. Or bad week. It always meets us at the dinner table Friday night. And usually leaves us even happier than it found us. Pizza has a way with us.
I’m sharing my Winter Kale Pesto recipe over at Dr. Jart’s blog. It’s perfect for the kale lover and hater in your life.
I adore pizza with pesto instead of red sauce; in fact, I prefer it that way, or just an aromatic olive oil chock full of crushed garlic and good smoked sea salt brushed over the crust……
*swoon*
But what I really wanted to say was KALE PESTO. Nicely done! I do love an alternative pesto, as superfresh basil is so fleeting and summery. So July. So not February. I’ve done spinach pesto, collards pesto, beet greens pesto, green bean pesto (weird. but it worked) parsley pesto, carrot top pesto….. all manner of pounded green anything has slipped past these lips. J’adore pesto!
this looks amazing! can’t wait to try it. keep the deliciousness coming!
kale pesto!! I’m intrigued! We’ve had plenty of wintry days here, some filled with hot cocoa and movies while others filled with the more mundane. Next storm, I’ll be making pizza for sure!
Love a winter pesto! I could totally go for some of this
Well I now know what I am making tomorrow night. Somehow I have missed that pizza dough recipe and I am more than a little excited to try it!
Kale pesto is definitely allowed to replace the inside of my mouth.
As I think you know, I’m a rather recent kale lover, but since making the jump from foe to fan, I’ve become slightly obsessed. I’m on my way to the good Dr.s. Jealous of your snow storm, we’re supposed to get one too, so I better warm up the pizza stone.
I have always wanted to make my own pesto! Maybe I’ll try this over the snowy weekend!
