The breakfast palooza continues. Or maybe it’s come to its rightful end? I think we have enough weekend breakfast recipes to last us a good month. There’s no denying it. I truly love breakfast. But I’m particular. I like my waffles crispy. My crepes with golden webbing. My french toast with thick crusty bread. And my pancakes thin, light, and far from cakey. My mom says I’ve always been this way. Read more
Valentine’s Day is a trade-off in our house. One year I plan. The next year he plans. It’s romantic, I promise. We have yet to talk about it this year though. I’m hoping that means it’s his turn. But just in case, I’ll have s’mores ready. They have a sweet spot in our hearts.
Bread made from entirely whole wheat flour can be somewhat low-rising. It seems that this is what people expect when they use all whole wheat. BUT it doesn’t have to be this way. I beat the machine, the big company, the artificial flavors, the cardboard packaging, and plastic wrapping to make homemade fig newtons. And you can too. Sweet victory. Read more
Have you noticed? Chicken Pot Pie. Chicken Noodle Soup. Apple Pie. I’ve been on a comfort food frenzy. And biscuits have been tugging at my pant leg for weeks now. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think I was pregnant. Or homesick. I’m craving biscuits about as much as I’m craving some good ole family time. Living far away from home has its disadvantages—like living far away from home. The miles apart are long. And the days till Christmas vacation seem endless. I’m counting on these tender in the middle but crunchy on the outside comfort-filled biscuits to tide me over in the meantime. And maybe a Christmas cookie or two. Read more
One of my most favorite fall activities is apple picking. It makes me feel like a kid again even though I never went apple picking as a kid. Maybe I like it because I’ve finally figured out what the heck the word peck means. Pick a peck of pickled peppers. Never understood that nursery rhyme. Until now. Makes me feel like a kid again.
