I’ve deleted and rewritten this first sentence at least thirty times. I’m forcing myself to reflect on the past year, but I can’t come up with any solid thoughts just yet. Maybe the process of writing it all out will help. I don’t care for New Year’s Day much minus my mom’s black eyed peas. Starting over is hard. As is saying goodbye to family and the anticipation of the holidays. Coming off that high leaves me dog paddling for awhile. Give me a week or two, though, and I’ll make my way to the shore. I’ll find my footing again. Life will take off at an alarming rate. And I’ll beg it to slow down at the start of each new week. But for now, I’m still holding on to 2012.
To that time my friends and I recreated Bitchin’ Sauce while my husband was interviewing all over the country for an internship position.
To that time we found out we’d be leaving our first married home, Chicago, for New Haven, CT.
To that time I created Salted Dark Chocolate Nutella Cookies and wrote a sing-songy post about it.
To that time my sister got married and I decided it would be a good idea to make the grooms cake.
To that time we moved across the country and it was weird to cook in a new kitchen at first so I decided to spend as little time in there as possible. And instated simple summer.
To that time I went to Alt Summit NYC and learned lessons that will shape me for a lifetime.
To that time I spilled all my fauxtography secrets. Maybe they weren’t all that secret.
To that time I redesigned my blog. And kept a real secret.
To that time I told my big secret. Launched a blog design business, Wooden Spoons Kitchen, with Erin. And dreamed I could really work for myself one day.
To that time I created Christmas in a Cookie and then shared it on a local news station, scared out of my witz.
To that time I said good bye to 2012 with a clink.
2012, you brought some pretty, unexpected changes to life. You inspired me. You showed me my dreams could be reality. You encouraged me. You taught me. You refined me. You were good to me. So much so I’m still hanging on. Until I write the date later today and remember it’s time.
Thank you, friends, for reading with me. Eating with me. Cooking with me. Celebrating with me. Let’s do this thing they call two thousand thirteen.
It looks like 2013 was a landmark year. Thank you, despite all the upheaval and changes in your life, for regularly providing us readers with a lovely blog and mouth-watering recipes. Here`s to 2013!
Even more so, thank you for reading and sticking around. Means a lot to me!
You had a very exciting and rewarding year. It was inspiring to watch your blog blossom and I look forward to seeing what you have to share with us this year! Happy 2013!
Thanks Kellie! That means a lot to me! Thanks for sticking around with me. Happy very belated new years to you too!
2012 was clearly a year of change, risk, and a lot of great rewards. Here’s to taking more risks and greater rewards in 2013, friend. I do hope we get to meet this year 🙂 xo
Amen to all of that! I’m keeping my fingers crossed we can somehow meet this year. Thinking of you often in your new adventure of mom-hood! Huge hugs! PS—every time I add cardamom to a recipe it makes me think of you! I love the way you spice things. It’s making my boring palette branch out. xo
I loved seeing all the moments of your year as told in food. So much change, one recipe at a time. Cheers to a slightly quieter (or not, maybe) year ahead.
So so glad I got to meet you in the new year! You’re just a kind as I expected. Hoping we can meet up again sometime soon! We can only hope for a quieter new year 🙂 Fingers crossed.
Looks like a great year! Can’t wait to see what you cook up for 2013. I still am dying to try that bitchin’ sauce.
Happy New Year!
: )
Jen
You must try the bitchin’ sauce. The chipotle version is my favorite. Happy very very belated new years to you too! Maybe we’ll get to meet up sometime while I’m out east!
Look at that wicked year you had! Happy 2013! May it be even better!
Thanks Amanda! A huge and very belated new year to you too!
Much to celebrate. Here’s to the continued success I know you’ll have this year.
Thanks Bobbi! Excited to see what 2013 brings to Fresh and Foodie. Always love following your adventures on Instagram.
That groom’s cake looks absolutely incredible. Lucky groom! Happy New Year!
I felt like a lucky sister in law that he asked me to make the cake. It was a near disaster 🙂 Happy very very very belated new years to you too!
I have only just ‘found’ your blog and it seems I have missed out on quite an epic year! Happy 2013 – hears to me catching up on all those past posts and continuing to read on! thanks xx
Hey Jade! I’m so glad you stopped by and said hey! A very, very, very belated cheers to the new year to you!

Thanks for being such an encouragement to me, Brie! I love, love, love watching you blog now. You are one talented (and very very sweet) person. So glad I know you in real life!

Thanks for following, Megan! Sometimes I forget that people read this thing besides me and my husband (he checks my grammar :)) xo
It sounds like it was an incredible year for you!
And somehow I missed the announcement of the blog design business – I sure hope that goes well for you, there are way too many ugly blogs out there…
This comment made me laugh a little to myself. Bummed we never met while I was in the Chicago area!
Melissa-
I too sit here on January 7, 2013 and wonder what my next and 100th blog will be. For my 100th blog, I am waiting for just the right topic. Sounds like you are going to be busy and distracted this year, yet I am confident you will tempt us with dazzling sweets. Be brave! Diane
You are great! Thanks for the encouragement, Diane! I’m glad we “met” last year through blogging.
You had such an amazing year. All the best in 2013!! xx
Same to your Katrina! xo
Wow! What an incredible year 2012 was for you and your family. Thank you for sharing on this beautiful blog of yours 🙂
It was full of adventure, that’s for sure! Thanks for hanging out here. Means a lot to me!
What an exciting 2012 for you! I didn’t realized you moved to CT this year … that is a big deal. I hope you’ve enjoyed it so far … I grew up in Fairfield, and always loved trips to New Haven for amazing pizza. Happy New Year!
We are liking CT, especially the pizza! Although my favorite pizza place is only open half the year. I’ve been dreaming about it the last couple months. We need to head over to the Fairfield area. I hear it’s really pretty!
Looks like you had a full, rewarding year! Here’s to 2013 being as awesome. 🙂
It was a good year! A crazy but good one. Excited for your new babe coming this year. Can’t wait to see pics!
Thank you Melissa for such a delicious 2012, I’m so excited to see what great things 2013 has in store for you xo
Thank you for always being so encouraging. It always puts a smile on my face. xo
