Sweet Potato Taco Soup | The Fauxmartha

It’s that time of year when people gather in droves. Sweaters, Bing Crosby, bubbly drinks, and twinkly lights fill center stage. In the background, the haggard hostess dances around the kitchen for hours, prepping a meal for many—the ones she loves most. Near meal time, it’s inevitable. She questions the depth of her love due to the stress, sweat, and need for another shower.  Read more

Cheater Banana Pudding | The Fauxmartha

Instead of cooking elaborate meals and coming up with new recipes, I’m in the throws of 20 DIY projects for the babe’s room. I think my husband is hoping for an early arrival just to put an end to all the craft projects. As of last night, I decided I need a gold pillow to complete the room. Maybe something like this? Angel Food Cake | The Fauxmartha

Angel Food Cake was on the on summer to-post list unlike the Lemonade. I crossed it off, and it felt surprisingly good. But not nearly as good as it felt to serve to my extended family after a 3-hour turned 8-hour road trip to the beach last weekend. Fourth of July traffic on the east coast is mighty nasty.  Read more

Sometimes when I say things like “holla” or “holla back youngin, woo woo!”, my husband reminds me I’m a 70 year old trapped in a 20-something year old body. The Martha Stewart Show was my favorite show in college. He may be on to something. Read more

Whole Wheat Pancakes | The Fauxmartha

The breakfast palooza continues. Or maybe it’s come to its rightful end? I think we have enough weekend breakfast recipes to last us a good month. There’s no denying it. I truly love breakfast. But I’m particular. I like my waffles crispy. My crepes with golden webbing. My french toast with thick crusty bread. And my pancakes thin, light, and far from cakey. My mom says I’ve always been this way. Read more

I’m pretty sure I’ve signed up for every last Martha Stewart email there is. It was a good idea at first. Until opening up my email in the mornings turned into stress due to the sheer amount, and the delete button became the only thing that looked appetizing. The ding is both a blessing and a curse. I should be packing. And organizing. And throwing out things I haven’t touched in the past four years since moving to Chicago. I shouldn’t be blogging and baking and coming up with new recipes. I shouldn’t be running to Trader Joe’s to pick up bags of ingredients. Or setting up my white boards in front of the window to wait for the light to turn just right. Read more

I’ve been busy. This weekend I started building my design website. Just about finished up designing my sisters wedding invites. And dreamed up a new cookie recipe (coming later this week). Productivity never felt so good. The last couple months I’ve had a dark cloud looming over my head. A to-do list a mile long. It’s dibilitating. But I’ve decided to put one foot in front of the other. Chip away little by little. And plan zero social outings on the weekends. Soon enough things will get back to normal. Right? Read more
