Make Ahead Broccoli Kale Bake | The Fauxmartha

Don’t mind the boxes, packing tape, unkempt hair, and complete mess that sits behind this computer screen. By the end of the week, we will be moved into the new place. At least that’s the plan. But since nothing has gone quite as planned, I may still be sitting at this here desk come next week. Let’s pray that’s not the case. My sanity is about to walk out the door on me.  Read more

Angel Food Cake | The Fauxmartha

Angel Food Cake was on the on summer to-post list unlike the Lemonade. I crossed it off, and it felt surprisingly good. But not nearly as good as it felt to serve to my extended family after a 3-hour turned 8-hour road trip to the beach last weekend. Fourth of July traffic on the east coast is mighty nasty.  Read more

This post is sponsored by Horizon Organic. All opinions are my own. Have no fear. I’m not selling out to the big man, only working alongside  a company I already use and love. If you’re down with Horizon Organic Milk as much as I am, here’s a $1 off coupon. Holla!

Sometimes when I say things like “holla” or “holla back youngin, woo woo!”, my husband reminds me I’m a 70 year old trapped in a 20-something year old body. The Martha Stewart Show was my favorite show in college. He may be on to something. Read more

Spring Chicken Salad | The Fauxmartha

Airports are funny places. Full of emotion. I said good-bye to my sister on Monday, choking back tears as I walked through security trying my hardest not to look like that crazy pregnant lady, all the while dreaming of the day “good-bye” means “see you tomorrow”. And yet a week and a half earlier I was over-the-moon excited to head out of town to celebrate my husband’s graduation with family and friends. Bipolar emotions—airports do that to me.  Read more

Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble Muffins | The Fauxmartha

Five years ago, I married my best friend. We left our homes and moved to Chicago where he began graduate school. A couple months in to the journey, I started this space. He was working and studying all the time. I quickly learned a weekend outlet was necessary for me to survive blips of boredom, and cleaning the condo wasn’t cutting it.  Read more

Sweet Potato Tacos | The Fauxmartha

I buy groceries, cook and eat three nutrient-rich meals a day, and do it all as involuntarily as my heart beats. I have plenty. More than plenty. And I take it for granted. I don’t think twice about adding more vegetables and fruits to my shopping cart. And lately more of the produce in my cart displays the organic sticker on its exterior, totaling my bill a little higher. I have plenty. But that’s not true of everyone—nearly 48.8 million Americans “lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis.” (source) Read more

Baked Sweet Potato Fries | @thefauxmartha

I’ve been craving bad things. Things I gave up years ago and promised myself I wouldn’t eat again. Things that always leave me full of regret and craving nutrient-rich food. I’m hoping this is a short phase of pregnancy. Because Pizza Hut pan pizzas and massive amounts of ice cream must end. Though moderate amounts of ice cream are welcome. Very welcome. That’s one thing I’ll never give up. Read more

Banana Nut Baked Oatmeal | The Fauxmartha

As Old Man Winter makes one last (fingers crossed) sweep across the US, let’s not forget all the warm breakfasts that have sustained us through the many grey days of winter. They’ll soon be replaced with lighter, chilled breakfasts that haven’t crossed our minds for months. In the flurry of baby and croissant excitement (is it bad those two events exist in the same sentence?), I nearly forgot to share one of those warm breakfasts—Banana Nut, sweetened with maple, Baked Oatmeal. I recently guest posted over at Turntable Kitchen while Kasey took a little maternity leave. I’m soaking up her new mom wisdom as much as I’m savoring the last of these warm breakfasts. Because before you know it, we’ll be complaining about the heat and sucking down homemade popsicles like there’s no tomorrow.  Read more
