A couple weeks ago, we had friends over for the first time since moving to Connecticut. It was monumental. I had been putting it off for weeks. Things still felt a little out of place. My desk area was a disaster. And our kitchen still looked too tiny to prepare a meal for more than two. But we did it. We christened it. And now it feels like home. Read more

Where do you find your worth? Last night thoughts of high school flooded my memory. With them came a slight pang in my stomach. I pictured my 16 year old self, wandering around, hoping someone would notice me. Really—hoping a cute boy would notice me. Awkwardness. Uncertainty. Ample mascara. And a spray of Gap’s perfume  Dream. Those were not the days.

Last week when I launched my new site, I couldn’t tell you the full story. Like who did the backend of my site, because goodness knows I didn’t do it. Well, the secret is out. I’ve been in cahoots with another food blogger. You probably know her—Erin of Naturally Ella. She is brilliant, incredibly patient, and does beautiful work. She made my site come to life. I’m happy to announce that we are going into business together! I’d like to introduce you to Wooden Spoons Kitchen. We create logos, define brands, and design websites for bloggers and small businesses. We even offer hosting. I’ll let you read all about it on our new site. Read more

And we’re live with a brand new site! I’m high on adrenaline. 4 hours of sleep for a girl that requires at least 8. Last night felt like Christmas Eve. I kept peeking around the corner to see if Santa had dropped in yet. He came early this morning. I was sleep deprived but oh so giddy. The front end doesn’t look all that different, but the backend surely does. I’ll tell you next week who helped me with the site. It’s a fun little secret I’ve been keeping. Have a click around. I’m still updating portions of the site so things may look a little weird the next couple of days. Let me know if something seems super off. In the meantime—let’s play.

This post is a bittersweet one. Bitter because this is the last post on this blogging platform, wordpress.com. We’ve been together almost 4 years now. But sweet because I’m getting a brand new shiny site. Read more details at the bottom of the post, like what to expect and how to keep receiving updates, etc. Things are a changing. For the better. Have you heard a heart beat before? Sometimes I like to sit and watch the vein pulse on my husband’s neck. It’s rhythmic. It’s comforting. It’s my favorite feeling.

My sister and I came home this weekend. She’s in school to become a Physician Assistant. She pulled out her stethoscope, and we started listening. To my heart. It beats slow and steady. To her heart. Slightly faster than mine. To my mom’s heart. It’s even faster with a gurgle. She has Mitral Valve Prolapse. Read more

Good friends are hard to come by. They’re like gold when you find them. The same is true of a good recipe.

I took a last minute trip home to Dallas this weekend to see my friend and her newborn baby. We’ve been friends since 4th grade when we met on the soccer field. We played for the Wildcats. I was a defender. She was a defender. And the next thing you know we were jumping on her trampoline. Then came sleepover parties. Cookouts with our families. Dressing up like Pilgrims and Indians at Thanksgiving at an age I wont mention. Much too old to be dressing up. Or not. We hung out at her house nearly every weekend with the posse in highschool. I’d fall asleep on the couch early. It was a given. We went to prom together and graduated high school together. We separated for college but spent late nights talking at Starbucks over breaks. We walked down the isle at each others weddings. And then I moved away. We grew up. Became adults. Semi adults. And then she had a baby. The distance felt farther than the 1600+ miles Google maps displayed. So I flew home on a whim. Thanks Dad. Held the sweetest baby in the world. And saw my friend, once a Wildcat, become a mother. Pure gold. Read more

I don’t care much for baby carrots anymore. I ate them nearly every day at lunch for a solid year. Pretty sure it was the longest year of my life. Have you ever chewed one of those baby carrots? It takes about 5 minutes per carrot. And I always seemed to pack at least 10. That must equal about 4 whole carrots. Those little guys are deceptively dense and far more compact than any normal carrot. And their shape—it’s just a little too perfect. My hands used to turn orange during that time. It all makes sense now. I was eating wayyyy too many carrots. Read more
