I try to do that with my little zester/grater but somehow my finger always ends up in the way!

we use the garlic rocker http://www.surlatable.com/product/PRO-179859/Joseph-Joseph-Garlic-Rocker
it is stainless steel – you can wash it out with you fingers and it gets rid of the garlic smell :)

  3. Misky says:

I also use a micrograter – have done so for a few years now. No more poking bit of garlic out of a press with a toothpick!

Great tip. I usually use a mincer but they are harder to clean. I’ll definitely try this next time!

  6. Kim says:

I would do this if I had a finger guard so I don’t shred my finger (or worse, my fingernail . . . chewy bits in the garlic is not good).

  7. Chloe Moon says:

I’ve never heard of a microplane!! I have to get one…I buy already minced garlic, but it’s so not the same!

  8. Monica says:

I use a garlic press. It’s another thing to wash but like using a microplane, I like getting that really fine mince and it just melts into everything.

  9. Wendy says:

My microplane is probably my favorite kitchen tool (along with the citrus press for juicing lemons, limes, etc.) When time is short I also use frozen minced garlic cubes. I get mine at Trader Joe’s. They taste pretty close to fresh, they are quick, and no garlic fingers :)

To rid your fingers of that garlic smell (or any smell), just rub them thoroughly on the faucet of your kitchen sink. Stainless steel neutralises smells, and it’s cheaper than buying this!: http://www.amazon.com/Blomus-63113-Stainless-Steel-Soap/dp/B00008W6A5
