Tip of the Week

Chopping Fruits and Veggies

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 | 2 Comments

Sometimes chopping fruits and veggies can feel like an olympic sport. To play it on the safer side, start by giving yourself a flat edge. For example, if you’re cutting an onion, chop off the ends and set the onion on the flat side to continue chopping. As always, keep those finger tips curled in and use a well sharpened knife.

For a step-by-step illustration of this method, check out this post.

I don’t have a name for it yet, but once a weeki I don’t have a name for it yet, but once a weekish, probably less, I wanna play share your favorite. Sometimes I’ll share my favorite, but all the time, I hope you share your favorite. This week I don’t have a favorite, so I realllly hope you share yours. Ok, cut to the chase already, Melissa. What’s your favorite dish towel? You know the kind that actually dry and don’t leave lint and wash well and don’t smell. Am I asking too much? Speaking of wash, how do you wash yours? Sans bleach if possible. Is there a special trick? SOS!

This time last year, a whole lifetime ago, I wrapp This time last year, a whole lifetime ago, I wrapped up the @pinchofyum studio design 🤯. It took 6 months and 2 trimesters to create and a lot of faith from @lindsaymostrom and so much behind the scenes help from Kimberly (who works with me) and lots of heavy lifting from Kev, who didn’t sign up for heavy lifting. Just taking a scroll down memory lane today. (More room details on the blog if you search “Pinch of Yum.”)
I’m not sure about a lot of things. But I do kno I’m not sure about a lot of things. But I do know that this method for paring down a kitchen works, and it works long term. It’s not rocket science, but I slowly stumbled towards it a handful of years ago after almost quitting the kitchen because it was a big pile of spilled bags (swipe for before) and not enough of the right things to get dinner on the table. For lack of another name, I called this method The Minimalist Kitchen. I wrote a book about it and now offer a course on creating your pared down kitchen, not mine, so that you can get dinner on the table without totally losing your mind. If your kitchen feels great, keep scrolling. But if it feels broken, like mine did, I’d love to have you in the class. It starts January 21st with written instruction, flexible pacing, downloadable worksheets, video responses to your questions, and ingredient and tools recommendation. Cost: $18. There’s more info and an easy link to the sign up in my highlights. PS: You don’t have to ascribe to minimalism to take this course. Think of it this way. As my friend @abundantlifewithless says (paraphrased): minimalism doesn’t mean always tidied, just easily tidied. That’s where this course will get you. I’d love to have you! #theminimalistkitchen

  • TIP OF THE WEEK

Try sweet onions or Vidalia onions over the white or yellow variety. They're a touch sweet and don't make my eyes burn when cutting.
