Instead of cooking elaborate meals and coming up with new recipes, I’m in the throws of 20 DIY projects for the babe’s room. I think my husband is hoping for an early arrival just to put an end to all the craft projects. As of last night, I decided I need a gold pillow to complete the room. Maybe something like this? We’re squeezing in a thousand dates in 30 days, or however many days we have left as just the two of us. It’s new ground for us. We’ve never been the best at dating—the kind of dating that requires reservations and plans. We’re far too last minute and, truth be told, cheap. The cost of a date seems to add up quickly, where all I can seem to see are dollar signs above every doorstep. We’ve been on a grad school budget for too many years. I’m not sure that we’ll ever lose that mentality. Nor do I want to. Read more
What do you get when you cross a pregnant donut lover with a craft blogger over at The Proper Pinwheel? A surprise baby shower with baked donut holes on a DIYed pinwheel. Myself along with a bunch of my favorite craft bloggers are having a virtual baby shower today to celebrate Lexy and her sweet baby girl on the way. If all goes as planned, Lexy and I will have our littles only a week or so apart. They’ll soon become best friends after we move to Denver next summer (fingers triple crossed). Read more
Writing posts these days has been tedious. I’m not 100% sure why. But lately I’ve noticed a longing to tell a story different than my own. In my fairytale world, I’d tell you a story about how this cheesecake has been passed down through the generations and eaten on hot summer evenings after a long day spent at the lake with family. Afterwards, we’d sit by the fire—the one I started—and talk for hours counting the stars that are too hard to make out in our urban neighborhood. Read more
Last week we fought the moving blues with a galette, eating it amongst the half-packed boxes. Morale was low. Had there been an exit-earth-button, it would have been pressed a time or two. I’m being overly dramatic, but honestly, moving is a drag. I’m not telling you anything new. After it was all said and done, we decided movers probably hate moving more than we do. Read more
Don’t mind the boxes, packing tape, unkempt hair, and complete mess that sits behind this computer screen. By the end of the week, we will be moved into the new place. At least that’s the plan. But since nothing has gone quite as planned, I may still be sitting at this here desk come next week. Let’s pray that’s not the case. My sanity is about to walk out the door on me. Read more
Angel Food Cake was on the on summer to-post list unlike the Lemonade. I crossed it off, and it felt surprisingly good. But not nearly as good as it felt to serve to my extended family after a 3-hour turned 8-hour road trip to the beach last weekend. Fourth of July traffic on the east coast is mighty nasty. Read more
When life gives you lemons, you squeeze them and make something good.
I have a list of recipes to work on and post for the remainder of the summer. I’ve never had a list like this before. Planning ahead is totally unlike me, but my brain capacity seems to be diminishing by the day. And ideas come to me as quickly as they fade. Lemonade was not on the list for this summer. Until last week, when we found a pile of lemons on our doorstep. Read more
