  61. Kimberly says:

A couple years ago, I decided to try to impress a foodie guy I was dating and make French macarons, which he loved.

Why I thought this would work is beyond me… I had never made them before, I was working in a tiny Manhattan kitchen with an apartment-size oven that I knew (or should have known) never heated evenly, and I had told him I was going to make them before I did — which if nothing else confirms they won’t come out well.

It took me days of soaking and scrubbing to get the somehow burned AND goopy mess off my baking sheets.

Also, we called it off soon after that. Not, ostensibly, because of the botched macarons.

(Despite this mishap, I am actually a frequent and, if I do say so myself, quite good baker. And now live in an apartment with a new, working oven. I would love a Silpat!)

  62. Vera Khule says:

  100. Katie Zaboy says:

Being that I am not the best baker, I don’t have any burned my “blank” stories because I leave the treat making to my BFF who uses Silpat! Maybe that’s her secret ;) haha but what I do make really well and I know would turn out even better with a Silpat is what i call Caprese bread broil. I take toasted sliced baguette topped with a drizzle of pesto olive oil, a slice of fresh heirloom tomato, a basil leaf, a hunk of mozzarella, splashed with balsamic vinegar, broiled for a few minutes… I can imagine a Silpat would take this type of dish to the next level!

  101. I would love to try the Silpat! I have always wanted one! I would attempt to make a flour less chocolate cake :)

  163. Elizabeth H says:

I made what I thought were the most brilliant cookies with my 3 year old niece, and she wanted to add caramels to them, you know the Kraft kind. So I gave her a handful chopped and she added them to the cookies we so lovingly made. Then we baked them, and knew they were done when acrid black smoke started billowing out of the oven… I have learned never to cook on un treated and unprotected cooking sheets!! Poor little niece was so disappointed, I had to give her chocolate! I did like on Twitter and Facebook, and Pinterest! Love your blog!!

I made a second batch of oatmeal pie cookies without using Silpat and they turned out so flat and crispy. The next batch I made sure to use the Silpat and they were perfect.

Silpat was my #1 item on my christmas list, too bad my boyfriend didn’t know what it was.. If only he knew since he’s the one who would benefit the most from perfect cookies!!
