Cantaloupe Gazpacho | @thefauxmartha

I’ve scrolled through Facebook 6 times now. I can repeat every status update and story. With each scroll, I’m certain the words will spill out like the heavy rain-filled clouds of April. Another scroll through. Nothing. There’s 19 abandoned plants sitting in the garage and a hole in the wall just above the guest room bed meant for a mirror that’s just a little too small. I wish that pink bubble gum medicine could cure my case of decision paralysis.  Read more

I didn’t go to school to study it. I’m guessing you didn’t either. (On the off chance that you did and can somehow still tolerate this space, I apologize for all the cringe-worthy sentence structures.) Yet somehow we’re all editors. I guess we’ve always been editors to a degree—choosing what we share and what we don’t. But now it’s forever stained into the internet—into your blog, your Instagram feed, and Facebook wall. It’s neatly housed in one space—to be read, to be enjoyed, to be critiqued as a body of work reflecting your life. Read more

Spring Pesto | The Fauxmartha

I have a favorite guy at the farmer’s market. He’s probably a bit older than my dad. His hair is white and his skin sun-kissed. His eyes are a soft trustworthy blue with well worn lines around them which tells me he smiles a lot. But most importantly, he has dirt under his fingernails. If his eyes weren’t already trustworthy enough.  Read more

I found spring at Trader Joe’s for $1.49. Well, hello little daffodils. I also found that after reading 547 children’s books you start talking like one. There’s no such thing as an inanimate object anymore. So to that end I say, goodbye Winter.

Five years ago, I married my best friend. We left our homes and moved to Chicago where he began graduate school. A couple months in to the journey, I started this space. He was working and studying all the time. I quickly learned a weekend outlet was necessary for me to survive blips of boredom, and cleaning the condo wasn’t cutting it.  Read more

Cookies and Cream Milkshake | The Fauxmartha

It feels like spring! Even if only for a couple days. The first batch of ice cream of the season has been churned. And since been blended into a cookies and cream milkshake. My skin is wrinkling at the corner of my eyes and my lips are stretched far across my face. Ahhh, it’s getting warmer outside! I’m all smiles. Since things are heating up around here, it’s time to do some celebrating with a giveaway. Read more

Baked Sweet Potato Fries | @thefauxmartha

I’ve been craving bad things. Things I gave up years ago and promised myself I wouldn’t eat again. Things that always leave me full of regret and craving nutrient-rich food. I’m hoping this is a short phase of pregnancy. Because Pizza Hut pan pizzas and massive amounts of ice cream must end. Though moderate amounts of ice cream are welcome. Very welcome. That’s one thing I’ll never give up. Read more

Please excuse my absence while I’m not laying out on some exotic beach or hiking up some picturesque mountain. I’m taking a spring break from blogging. I’ll be back next week, fingers crossed, with some sweet new posts. In the meantime you can find me applying for jobs in New Haven, planning my sister’s bachelorette party, returning dusty emails, updating my Facebook page, or working on some top secret projects. Also known as—catching up on life. Be jealous. Or  better yet, have some fun for me. Please!?

Speaking of fun—I got to squeeze some in last weekend. Check it out! Read more
