A symbol of hospitality. The emblem Chuck Williams imprinted on his store in 1956, a store you and I know well. Williams-Sonoma. Before you say, “Banana Curd. That’s boring. Give me more Nutella.” Let’s talk. I know you have at least one overly ripe banana sitting on your counter. You could make banana bread, but you don’t have time for that. You could freeze it for your next smoothie, but there’s already five others in the freezer.  Or, you could make banana curd in less than five minutes that will keep for weeks. And then you could shmear it on your crepes. With Nutella.

Angel Food Smoothie | The Fauxmartha

In high school I worked at Smoothie King. I also worked at Hallmark, which when asked where I worked, was always confused with Walmart. But that’s a story for another day. I’d drive to work early in the morning, in my ’98 dark green boxy Jetta, windows down, singing to Pink at the top of my lungs. Singing lyrics that were far too raw for my fairly happy upbringing, minus the typical high school breakups, that left me moodier than PMS, and my mom’s, thankfully, short stint with breast cancer. I lived in a self-constructed utopian bubble. “And you’ve totally redeemed yourself,” I said after taking one bite. Before making these banana muffins, I made zucchini/carrot bread. I couldn’t wait to share how something so healthy could taste so divine. Instead it ended up tasting like cardboard with a hint zucchini. Sadly, it even looked like cardboard. I threw away the bread after trying to salvage it by dressing it up as french toast. Nope, nothing can mask the taste of cardboard. Read more
