Monday’s are much too frequent these days. Somehow 52 of them have passed, and I have a 1 year old. During bath times I always say to Hal, “Remember your first bath when you were teeny tiny, and this towel nearly swallowed you whole?” She looks at me with a smirk—that I know when she’s 10 will be accompanied with rolled eyes—like, “Mom, stop it. I’m a big girl.” Where did this 8 tooth, food loving, sassy lady come from? Read more
If there’s one dirty dish I hate cleaning most, it’s a cheesy one. Hot water and a scrub brush just mean melted cheese shmeared everywhere. It’s counterintuitive, but turn your water temp to icy cold when cleaning cheesy dishes. The cheese will harden. Then trade your scrub brush for a pan scraper and scrape off the hardened cheese. I could write the story of our life based on google searches. Is it normal to change a newborn’s diaper 15 times a day? Why do newborns cry all the time? What is the climate like in Minneapolis? How long does it take to build a home? How long does it take a moving company to deliver your stuff? Where is the best biscuit in the Twin Cities? A couple weeks later, I met Stephanie for lunch at The Buttered Tin. I can’t pass up a good biscuit, and they had a good biscuit on the menu. Once again, it came with a side of raspberry quick jam. Whatever this phenomenon was, I needed it for my weekend biscuits. Read more
After countless times of finding a layer of spoiled or smashed berries by the time I made it to the bottom of the container, I finally got smart and started eating berries upside down from the container (especially delicate raspberries). They last a bit longer this way too.
I have this strange trend of posting pudding recipes when a friend publishes a new book. And by strange I mean awesome. (See this Butterscotch Pudding for reference.) Made with chai tea pudding, this ice box cake comes from the pages of Stephanie’s new book, Easy Gourmet. You probably know Stephanie as i am a food blog—you know that blog with the crazy beautiful photos and little logos that accompany every recipe? She kills it every time. I knew after landing on her site for the first time that she was going big places. I wasn’t wrong.
