I sat down to write this post last night. I wanted it to exude thankfulness in light of the upcoming holiday and this here Maple Pumpkin Pie. But I was far from feeling thankful last night. After a long day of 20-minute catnaps with a cranky babe, I thought I’d hand her over to Kev as soon as he walked in the door. After 5 minutes at home, he was called in. Dang. I forgot he was on call.

Acorn Squash Enchilada Sauce | The Fauxmartha

When my grandparents came to visit as a kid, they’d always sleep in my room. I wouldn’t let my mom take the sheets off after they left. Their smell. I wanted it to last, and the sheets seemed to hold it the longest. I’d cry when it no longer smelled like them but rather me.  Read more

Update Look | The Fauxmartha

Do you notice anything different? The site got a haircut. It was long overdue. But as haircuts seem to go, you may not notice much of a difference. Humor me as I walk you through my new layers. I’m a little excited.

Post Categories

Weekly I post a Recipe and a Tip of the Week. Duh, you know that. Into that mix, I’ll start posting to the categories of Fauxtograghy and Fauxmama. (I’m still working out the frequency of posting to these categories. I have high hopes and big dreams and a little girl who thinks daytime naps are for dummies.) Above each post is a fancy little header to let you know what you’re reading. I recognize all of these categories may not be of great interest to you, so hopefully this will queue you in to your favorite types of post.

Fauxtography posts will kinda be like the Tip of the Week for the camera. But let me warn you, I’m a fauxtographer, not a professional photographer. Want a sneak preview of what these posts will be like? Check out this post from back in the day.

Fauxmama posts will kinda be like a recipe for mamas from a fauxmama. I really have no clue what being a mom is all about. But I do know finding the best carseat or a onesie that doesn’t end in a scream sesh is like searching for the best vanilla cake recipe. Hard work but worth the search (and worth sharing). Read more

Lemon Poppyseed Muffin | The Fauxmartha

Breaking news these days—the babe slept in her crib, therefore her room, for the first time this week. All by herself. We’re lame and already miss having her in our room. She also only woke up once to feed. And then slept in the swing the next morning, which she’s hated abhorred up until this point. Sweet, tiny victories. I took advantage of having both hands free and made doughnuts from Ashley’s new book, Baked Doughnuts for Everyone. Read more

The last granola recipe | The Fauxmartha

Hello from the land of dirty diapers, cold meals, few showers, and short nap times. We’re slowly digging our way out of the blur that is life with a newborn and trying to establish a new normal which seems to change by the day. Despite the aforementioned, we’re absolutely in love with our little babe. She’s so sweet and already flashing us gummy grins and raspy coos. She’s nonstop motion and loves to hold her head up on her own—a little too independent for her own good. She looks exactly like her daddy. We still haven’t figured out who her mom is yet. Kidding. Not kidding. If nothing else, she has my appetite, which lately consists of a very healthy (daily) dose of granola—the last granola recipe I’ll ever make. Read more

Hallie | The Fauxmartha

I’m 10 days late with this announcement, but I haven’t been able to peel my eyes off this little girl. Hallie was born pretty fast on Friday the 13th. I’m calling it lucky. She’s happy and smiley when awake, spending the majority of her days eating and pooping. She has a squeaky cry and golden hair. She looks just like her daddy, but we’re thinking she may have some of her mom’s feistiness. We’re so, so in love. I’ll fill you in on the details later, but for now, here’s what I’ve been cooking these last nine months.

Simple Peach Crisp | The Fauxmartha

I was hoping to post a picture of a cute swaddly little girl this week. She decided to keep cooking. So instead, you’ve got peach crisp. It’s not nearly as cute. I apologize. But it’s equally as good. It’s gestation period is only 30 minutes which beats the whole 9 month thing. Crisp, you win this week. Baby, I guess this means you win too.  Read more

Creamsicle | The Fauxmartha

With all this talk of pumpkin lattes and apple crisps, I’m hanging on to summer for dear life. Not ready to let it go. Not one bit. So we’re making summery desserts nearly every night. This week it’s been peach cobbler and these dairy-free creamsicles. Read more
