Sun-dried Tomato Dressing | @thefauxmartha

Who first believed in you? Family members don’t count. For me, it was Mr. Serie. He was my 8th grade art teacher. Art was a 6-week elective then. Or was it 12-weeks? I can’t remember. But despite all my goofing off in the class, he pulled me aside and told me I was good at art. He didn’t have to do that. And I probably wasn’t all that good. But I went on to paint lots of pictures, take lots of art classes, and major in graphic design. All because Mr. Serie told me I was good at something. Words are powerful. Read more

I have a favorite guy at the farmer’s market. He’s probably a bit older than my dad. His hair is white and his skin sun-kissed. His eyes are a soft trustworthy blue with well worn lines around them which tells me he smiles a lot. But most importantly, he has dirt under his fingernails. If his eyes weren’t already trustworthy enough.  Read more

They say there’s blizzard-like conditions coming to the northeast on Friday. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. For ending work early. Warming up to a mug of hot chocolate. And making every excuse to stay inside under a blanket. We’ll make homemade pizza just like we always do on Friday nights. Skipping the tomato sauce for leftover winter pesto this time. And rent a couple Red Box movies. At least that’s how I envision it.  Read more

I don’t know much about football although I grew up in a football watching family. But I do know that the Super Bowl is always the first weekend in February. Right? And that food, lots of food is consumed. And maybe beer too although I never jumped on that bandwagon. I’m a wine girl. A cheap wine girl. Sorry Dad.    Read more

The last couple weeks I’ve been running around like a crazy lady. With my hair frazzled and head spinning. The deadlines are piling up and the holidays are quickly, too quickly, approaching. I’m currently sitting at my computer, writing a post, eating breakfast, and putting on make-up. Frazzled. Too frazzled. Read more

For my entire married life—4 years and counting—we’ve been eating Jack’s Garden Fresh Salsa. Purchased from Costco. It’s one of the main reasons this two person household has a membership. That and rolled oats. And then we moved to Connecticut. No Jack here. Read more

A couple months ago, I started this simple summer series. I read every last suggestion from you on how to keep summer simple and even implemented a handful, although they were faced with great resistance at first. A friend from college posted a suggestion to go outside, sit on the back porch, and stop everything. Shivers ran up my spine as a read it. Read more

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And when your husband asks for that Catalina topped taco salad from his youth, you’ll find a way to make the dressing from scratch. Not because he asked. But because you’re anal and Kraft just wont do.

He might tell you to just go and buy the store bought stuff. And he might turn up his nose at your homemade stuff. But as soon as it hits his mouth, he’s happy, wholesome, and asking for seconds. Read more
