A couple weeks ago my mom came into town. She was going to watch Hal while I got so caught up on work I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. Instead I spent most of the week hanging out with her and making Nutella Lattes. I also spent a good amount of time just watching her with Hal. Not the controlling over-the-shoulder kind of watching. More so the how-did-you-do-that kind of watching. Read more
I made a similar Pear Almond Galette for Thanksgiving. Or should I call it Almond Pear Galette? I can’t decide. Either way it was simple yet beautiful, nearly elegant, with only a couple ingredients. (Simplicity is prime these days.) By the cover, it was a sure winner. But you know what they say—don’t judge a book by its … they were right. Read more
You may remember Christmas in a Bowl or Christmas in a Cookie from years past. This year I give you Christmas in a Tart—chocolate crust, a layer of dark chocolate pudding, topped with a layer of white chocolate peppermint mousse. It’s rich, decadent, chocolately, and minty. And happens to taste just like Christmas. Read more
I sat down to write this post last night. I wanted it to exude thankfulness in light of the upcoming holiday and this here Maple Pumpkin Pie. But I was far from feeling thankful last night. After a long day of 20-minute catnaps with a cranky babe, I thought I’d hand her over to Kev as soon as he walked in the door. After 5 minutes at home, he was called in. Dang. But it’s equally as good. It’s gestation period is only 30 minutes which beats the whole 9 month thing. Crisp, you win this week. Baby, I guess this means you win too. Read more
With all this talk of pumpkin lattes and apple crisps, I’m hanging on to summer for dear life. Not ready to let it go. Not one bit. So we’re making summery desserts nearly every night. This week it’s been peach cobbler and these dairy-free creamsicles. Read more
Instead of cooking elaborate meals and coming up with new recipes, I’m in the throws of 20 DIY projects for the babe’s room. I think my husband is hoping for an early arrival just to put an end to all the craft projects. As of last night, I decided I need a gold pillow to complete the room. Maybe something like this? Writing posts these days has been tedious. I’m not 100% sure why. But lately I’ve noticed a longing to tell a story different than my own. In my fairytale world, I’d tell you a story about how this cheesecake has been passed down through the generations and eaten on hot summer evenings after a long day spent at the lake with family. Afterwards, we’d sit by the fire—the one I started—and talk for hours counting the stars that are too hard to make out in our urban neighborhood. Read more
