Make Ahead Orange Clove Rolls | @thefauxmartha

That’s a picture of a beautiful make ahead orange clove roll that I made for Thanksgiving. I forgot to post the picture of Hallie throwing a tantrum for the twelfth time. And the picture where I threw one too, beet red and angry. And I didn’t tell you how I threw out the stuffing before anyone could take seconds because it didn’t taste right. I bought the wrong bread. And I didn’t record the argument we had about how to best hang the garland outside either. But I did want to tell you about these make ahead orange clove rolls we consumed during those days. That cream cheese glaze, it can cover a multitude of sins. Read more

Weekend Biscuits with Wheat | The Fauxmartha

About a year ago, Kev asked if I could come up with a “less buttery” biscuit. I know, I  know. I can hear your gasps all the way over here. Why, WHY would you pull butter out of a biscuit? But in the name of compromise and making sure I could still make a tray of biscuits on Saturday morning for someone besides myself, I started hacking away at my old recipe. I didn’t delete all the butter. Please breathe already. Read more

Orange Rosemary Muffins | The Fauxmartha

I found spring at Trader Joe’s for $1.49. Well, hello little daffodils. I also found that after reading 547 children’s books you start talking like one. There’s no such thing as an inanimate object anymore. So to that end I say, goodbye Winter.

Braided Chocolate Bread | The Fauxmartha

Colorado or bust was my mantra. #Denver2014 was my hashtag. For nearly 6 years we’ve tried to make our way out west. After our last move to Connecticut, we promised ourselves that we’d pack up and make the Rockies our backyard once Kev finished his postdoc here. No excuses. Here we are 4 months from wrapping up his postdoc. And guess what? We’re not moving to Denver.  Read more

Did you know, consuming whole grains helps to reduce blood pressure, vascular disease, obesity, cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes (source). Bring on the scones. As always, all opinions are my own. We’ve been talking a lot about traditions lately—traditions we want to start in our family. Up until now, the conversation never crossed our mind. Apart from decorating the tree the day after Thanksgiving, we don’t have many. Usually we head home for Christmas (either my house or his) and pick up the traditions we left off with there. They’re ours but not oursRead more

Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble Muffins | The Fauxmartha

Five years ago, I married my best friend. We left our homes and moved to Chicago where he began graduate school. A couple months in to the journey, I started this space. He was working and studying all the time. I quickly learned a weekend outlet was necessary for me to survive blips of boredom, and cleaning the condo wasn’t cutting it.  Read more

Make Ahead Wheat Rolls from the faux martha

Easter is coming. Another big meal around the dinner table with friends and family. Chaos will ensue in the kitchen. There will be no time for homemade rolls. At least that’s what my Mom always said.

Croissants | The Fauxmartha

I started writing a meaningful post about hard work vs. instant gratification. But let’s cut to the chase. Croissants are hard work. About as much work as writing this recipe. Which has taken me days and left me wordless. Instant gratification sounds awfully nice at the moment.
