This is not Mike’s Hard Lemonade. It’s Mel’s Hard Lemonade. It’s been making an appearance at 5:00 for some time now. With a smooth, round lemon flavor served in a wine glass, not a beer bottle, it’s elegant and classy and quick. Along with a glass, you’ll reach for your brimmed hat, linen pants, and wicker picnic basket. Or maybe you’ll just reach for the wooden spoon to stir together dinner. I usually (always) do the latter. At 5:00.
Prepping and planning dinner has forever been a problem at our house. I’ve tried meal planning, but it lasts as long as a resolution—a couple weeks. I’ve made lists in my phone with my neighbor. Themed meals! Taco Tuesday. Pizza Friday. Surely that would help the dinner cause. I haven’t referenced the list in weeks.
But.
Do you remember studying Pavlov in psychology class? He conditioned a dog to salivate (and thus eat) after hearing the sound of a buzzer. It’s called a conditioned reflex. Being married to a psychologist, we mention this all the time. Well, maybe just me. It’s the only thing I remember from psychology class.
When the clock strikes 5, I run to the kitchen and pour a drink. Hard Lemonade the last couple of weeks. I know from reading the book If you Give a Mouse a Cookie that if you give a girl a drink, she’ll make dinner. I think Pavlov was on to something.
Dinner. Brought to you by Mel’s Hard Lemonade.

Love the photo’s in this shoot – the white background adds a crisp light feeling to what I imagine the drink would have. Going to make a jug of that “mom’s” lemonade on the next warm day here in the East Coast of Canada!
I love the single serving boozy recipes that have been making an appearance on your site — makes it feel 100% okay to pour only myself a cocktail while I make dinner. Just fabulous!
i followed a link from somewhere else to here and made one of these this afternoon as i had some home-made limoncello that i’d forgotten about (i know!) so, so good!!!
Love this! We have a huge Mason jar of homemade limoncello in our refrigerator and I’ve been trying to think of excuses to drink it up…I think I’ve finally found our excuse!
I love the idea of using limoncello for this lemonade. Out of curiosity, what kind of white wine do you use for this? Is there one varietal you stick with, or have you had luck with a few different ones?
I’m a little bit of a wine bouncer. I used Seven Sundays Crisp White for this batch. I really like their whites. Otherwise, I buy based on price and packaging. I really need to learn more about wine!
I am so with you. I keep trying meal planning and it never sticks. It’s like having to make dinner comes as a surprise every day. And never seems to happen if I don’t have something motivating to sip on. 🙂
Yes, please!!!! My mom and I were actually pounding a drink really similar to this on Easter, but made with champagne instead of regular white wine. We loooooved it, so I’m sure we would love this just as much. I like how easy this would be to throw together if you have limoncello in the freezer and white wine in the fridge. A perfect weekday cocktail, I’d say.

Mom’s Lemonade. Way better title!

They come out of necessity. Kev doesn’t cocktail with me. Womp!

This sounds delicious! It was so warm today that I could really use this!

I would absolutely love that! I feel so uneducated when it comes to wine.

Every single day it’s a surprise. Glad I’m not alone!
This sounds delicious! And it would be super easy to mix up a pitcher (or several) for a party or a picnic!
This is perfect for a hard Arnald Palmer while watching the Master’s this weekend. 🙂
The most perfect cocktail! I prefer to cut my wine with a little something else, so this is divine to me 🙂 See you SO soon Mel!
I’m way late in responding. Loved getting to see you!

Shoot, should I be keeping my limoncello in the freezer?
This looks amazing!! I’m going to have to make some as soon as it warms up.
