Are you as guilty as me of always having to throw away once fresh herbs well past their prime? I’ve starting drying half the bunch when I buy them since it’s inevitable they’ll end up in the trash. Wash, dry, and chop the herbs. Allow them to sit out and dry overnight in an even layer on the cutting board. Store in an empty spice jar. Speaking of spices, I bought all of mine originally from Target (Archer Farms) for their uniform in size glass jars with labels. I refill them either with bulk spices or self dried spices. They keep my shelves looking pretty and organized.

Great tip!! My herbs end in the compost bin! This is one of those tips you read and you say “why didn’t I think this before?” So simple and genial! Thanks!
Fresh herbs are such a treat but I find the same thing happening. Drying them is a great solution. For those times when one doesn’t have the time, putting a few sprigs of rosemary or thyme, or perhaps some basil, in a pretty little glass can be an attractive solution for at least getting some visual enjoyment out of them.
At the end of the season, I take any leftover herbs from my garden and dry them in the microwave or oven. It dries faster for my short attention span. 🙂
Great Tip!! This happens to me way to much! And OMG I do the same thing with the target jars! They are the perfect size and I am a little OCD about having things “look” nice!
Brilliant. I keep my extra herbs in a cup of water for a few extra days in case I want to use them in another dish or in leftovers, but I will now be drying them once I know I’m done with them. Thanks for the tip!
Awesome tip!!! Did not know that! I have all my spices in 8oz and 4oz spice jars and love the look + organization of it…plus buying bulk spices saves some moolah!
OMG we are both such packaging dorks! I do the same thing with Archer Farms herbs! The bottles are so much easier to store, better designed and cheaper. I knew we were kindred spirits in more ways than one.
That’s a great tip!! How come I never think of it.. Thanks a lot dear .. 🙂
No compost? No garden? Any kitchen plant material is never wasted if it goes into the garden…
I hear ya. Sadly I live in an apartment and don’t have access to a compost or a garden. Keeping my fingers crossed for the next place.
What a fab idea! I had (stupidly) never thought of doing that before. Thanks for the idea!!

Drying them is a fabulous idea! I threw out some basil last week and felt soooo bad!!

Great idea! I really need to do this. Instead, my leftover fresh herbs sit in the fridge until they are black and juicy. Um, yum…not.
Same here! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done that. Finally beat them a couple weeks ago 🙂
Great tip! I know what I’ll be doing!

I remember seeing them in your cabinets. We are a match made in heaven! Just wished I lived closer to you so we could hang more!
