It’s officially our last week of living in Chicago which is all sorts of bittersweet. Right now the bitter taste is overwhelming the sweet, but that will soon pass.
We started our married life here. It’s become home. We painted the walls a million different colors before settling on the right ones. We made many meals and shared them around our big, first-married-purchase, table. We’ve had tough conversations and watched $1 Red Box rentals on our hand-me-down, slip-covered couch from my youth. And we shared lots of laughter in every last square foot. This place has loved us well. I hope we’ve done likewise.
And this blog, that once began as a lifeline to our too-many-miles-away families, started here on this oversized IKEA desk. Thankfully it’s coming with me, which means you are too. And for that, I want to say thank you. Thank you for sticking with me through these crazy last couple months of moody and somewhat inconsistent posts. Thank you, too, for all your encouraging comments. They mean more to me than you’ll know.
So while we pack the Penske and trek out east, I want to leave you with a little something something. This week—Chemex + coffee giveaway from my favorite roasters and real life friends Fresh Ground Roasting! Next week—well, you’ll have to stay tuned.

This isn’t a contest entry, but I just had to say that reading the first line of this post brought back all the emotions I felt and feel about moving away from Chicago last year. Here’s to new beginnings!
Brazil MWP Decaf
I am with you and could go for a cup of Papua New Guinea Madan Estate right now!
I love a good breakfast blend. Cheers to new beginnings! Good luck!
Well I have not heard of this brand, when going to the website, the first thing I clicked on was Espresso, and checked out the Duo Espresso, but it then told me I might like the Brazil or the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast…That Dark Roast really looks good, well all of these coffees look good, I think I found a new coffee to try!!! Thank you for the post!!!
Breakfast blend sounds amazing, I’ve always wanted a Chemex, I’m such a huge coffee addict!
Also tweeted about it!
The Papua New Guinea would have been delicious this morning, I’m sure! Hope your move goes well, without any of those annoying hiccups that slow you down. Enjoy your new place!

This morning, I wish I had some of the Growers First Mexico Oaxaca coffee because the flavors sound perfect and so does the cause! (I’m also going to tweet to spread the news and get a second entry
)
I usually stick with Italian grind, which is very fine. Nice and rich.
I’d like the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe
This morning would have been perfect for Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Sounds lovely.
I’d love to try the Growers First Mexico Oaxaca blend, because I love saying “Oaxaca.” And it sounds yummy!

The Papua New Guinea Madan Estate sounds right up my alley
What a wonderful giveaway!
Fun contest. I’d love to try Papua New Guinea Madan Estate. Love your blog! Happy moving.
Wow! What a great giveaway. I love love LOVE my Chemex — it makes the best coffee. I also use a hand grinder to grind my beans. There’s something fun about the hands on-ness of it. As far as roasts goes, give me the strongest one you’ve got!
Good luck with the rest of your packing. Glad you’re bringing us with.
PS: Just Tweeted!
I’m sure the day would have been better had I been able to have some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast this morning. Alas, I shall settle for being entered into the contest.
The Breakfast Blend would get my vote!! Thank you for the wonderful giveaway and good luck on your next adventure!
Just tweeted to all my illustrious tweeters!

I would love a cup of the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe!!! (Especially in a new Chemex…I don’t have one!) Happy to have discovered your site.

Oh this morning i would’ve brewed the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe mix (it sounds fancy) in my hipster chemex. Love it. I hope you guys have a safe, stress free (not sure if that is possible) move! Happy trails to you both!
I would love the Breakfast Blend!
I’d kill for a machiatto w/ the Duo Espresso
Papua New Guinea for me!
Oh wow wow wow I would love some breakfast blend right about now…or a few hours ago…
The Papua New Guinea would have tasted great in our pour over this morning.
Breakfast Blend!
Good luck with your move! When we left Chicago, it was certainly bittersweet. We are about to make a big move too, and although it’s definitely stressful, we’re excited about new opportunities!! Hope your move goes smoothly.
I’m typically a Folger’s Black Silk kind of gal, but I would love to try that Dark Roast!
on another note, Here’s a quote from “Hope Floats,”:
(I’m paraphrasing because I don’t exactly remember it verbatim, but…) “beginnings are scary, ending are usually sad, but it’s what’s in the middle that counts most, you just have to give hope a chance to float up” Good luck on your move!
Oh, how I wish I had brewed the breakfast blend this morning…in my brand new chemex! Safe travels.
I drink whatever is cheapest at home and buy the good stuff at a local coffee shop. I woul love to try the breakfast blend. I like my coffee a little on the tame side.
Why haven’t I subscribed to your blog yet??? That’s silly. Well, I wish I would have brewed your favorite roast of Fresh Ground because I love to try what friends recommend.
Breakfast Blend, definitely! Good luck
Ah the breakfast blend would hit the spot. What a great giveaway!! Bless you guys in your move
Growers First Honduras
Excited to see the adventures God leads you into next!
Definitely the Papua New Guinea Madan Estate
I would love the breakfast blend…how fast can they get it here! has to be better than what I am drinking this A.M.
Good Luck with the big move! Enjoy the adventure and take lots of pictures so you can look back and laugh. Moving is like a wedding…something is bound to go “not as planned”! I have moved plenty, and the best advice I can give is to put the Sharpie and the packing tape on a string attatched to you and write names of designated rooms on boxes.
Bottoms Up to a cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast!
OOOO, I love coffee! I’d dig on the PNG, fo’ sho’.
I like a good breakfast blend but Papua New Guinea would be fun to try. I hope your move goes smoothly!
I’d pick one of the espresso roasts. The stronger, the better!
Now this is a great giveaway, Melissa! I’m so lucky I got to visit your place in Chicago and can’t wait to hear about your new life on the East coast! I think their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe dark roast sounds great, the darker the better for me!
I tweeted you Melissa! Don’t go!!
The Papua New Guinea Madan Estate sounds wonderful!
The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe looks great!
Good luck with the move. The bright side of moving (I’ve probably moved about a dozen times in the past 15 years) is that it forces you to edit/purge your belongings.
And the Papua New Guinea Madan Estate sounds awesome!
The Papa New Guinea Madan Estate sounds right up my alley

Hope your move from Sweet Home Chicago goes smoothly!
The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast looks super yummy!
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast!
I think I’m seeing a pattern with your fellow (former) co-workers, as I’d go for the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast, too. Maybe if I win, I can drown my sorrows (that you’re not here) with some great-tasting coffee!
Good luck with the move! Fantastic giveaway – I’d love to try the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe because I’m typically a big fan of the lighter, citrus-y notes in Ethiopian coffee.

I shared this on twitter, too!
The Breakfast Blend sounds wonderful…and much better than what I just drank!
I am wishing for some of that breakfast blend to wake me up….
How odd that I hear about this coffee site just a couple of days after leaving Wheaton. If I’d only known! My sister-in-law, Jane, shared your site with me, but I didn’t have a chance to look until I returned home. The coffee sounds fantastic (especially the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast), but I can’t wait to head over to the lime curd recipe!
Good to ‘meet’ you. Safe travels on your new adventure.
I wish I was drinking the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast right now!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I can only drink decaf coffee due to health reasons so I wish I had brewed the Brazil MWP Decaf this morning!
The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe for me

Calling for the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe for my 3 o’clock pick me up
I’m going with the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Best wishes on your move. I moved away from Chicago over ten years ago but still count it as “home” for the awesome memories and friendships formed during that time.
Three young kids and two dogs equal not much sleep. I need a GOOD cuppa in the morning. I need a Breakfast Blend in a Chemex to wake me up! That would be wonderful! Thanks
Good luck with the move!
Just tweeted it! Kbmama
I would love to try the Papua New Guinea Madan Estate
Definitely the Papua New Guinea!
The duo espresso for me!
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe for me!
The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast sounds right up my ally for waking up in the morning! It’s making me wish my coffee up was full all over again!
Hope you have a good move Melissa! Hope we can meet at Mimi’s sometime this year
I drink so many blends and I am not sure if I have ever drank coffee from one origin, so I would like to try the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast. When it comes to me and coffee, the darker, the better
.
I just tweeted it, too (karlawhitmore on Twitter).
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast, please! I’ve been eyeing a Chemex to add to my collection (espresso machine, moka bialetti, french press). Pretty sure it would complete it
Good luck with the move, lady!
mmm Ethiopian Yirgacheffe
Maxwell House
Congratulations on your move!! Yes, I totally understand how bittersweet it is, but yes, the bitterness will fade to hopefully some fond memories and a little bit of longing with time as new wonderful memories take a front row.
LOVE the Chemex set up! My husband would most likely choose the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast. He LOVES dark coffee. Me however, I’m going no caffeine for the next few months and I’d have to stick to that Brazilian decaf. He’s a trooper though and makes both type for us every morning!!
Good luck on the move!!
I tweeted!
Brazil MWP decaf. Lovely.
Papua New Guinea Madan Estate would be delicious!
The Breakfast Blend looks delish to me!

I wish I had roasted the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast. It looks delicious with caramel notes and a hint of smokiness. I love smoky coffees!
have to go ethiopian (not dark)! such a fan of single origin.
I’m drinking coffee as I read type this, but I totally wish I had a mug of Papua New Guinea Madan Estate brewing in the coffee pot right now. YUM!

Brazil Decaf! So I could actually get to sleep now! Lol!
But I am so addicted to caffeine and I really love my Chemex! (I’d spread the Chemex love by sharing if I won another!)
I like my coffee like I like my beer, floral and citrusy, so I would choose the Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, but NOT the Dark Roast. I appreciate the option but would like the lighter roast.
Happy moving!

Something about the Papua New Guinea Madan Estate is calling my name. And I’ve always yearned to own the classic Chemex!
I wish I had had the Breakfast Blend this morning – a crazy bird outside had me up at 1:00 AM and 5:30 AM found me groggy…
Duo Espresso sounds like my style! Twice the coffee?
I tweeted!
Aww, I have to admit, this made me a little teary eyed. I made a move a year ago and it brought back all those sad feelings! But enough with the mushy-ness over here…I hope your last week is a good one and don’t worry it’s not all that bad on the east coast here [:
chicago is the best place to pick yourself up by your bootstraps and make a life of your own. i’ve found that she’s the most forgiving city.
you will always be welcome back.
