Scones were my gateway drug into baking, my first love. For better or worse, they enticed me to try harder things. Initially though, they intimidated me. With their endless layers, their perfect imperfections, and their glistening top hat. But after learning the tricks of the trade, I was hooked. And my love for scones progressed into biscuits … tarts … and pies. But I’ll never forget my first love. Scones taught me about the art of baking. They taught me to work with my hands. And they taught me to appreciate the process just as much as the outcome.

And now here I am passing those tools on to you in the form of a giveaway. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I’m so thankful for you. For reading. For humoring me. For commenting. For telling me how the recipes turn out. For sending me pictures of your creations. You make my heart happy. And for one lucky reader, I hope this makes your heart happy.

  15. Beth says:

My mom and dad have an orchard that’s older than I am. One of my earliest baking memories starts there. I remember being a really little kid-like kindergarten age-and helping to pick apples, dumping them in the wagon attached to the tractor, eating warm apples right off the tree, throwing the bad apples to the neighbor’s cows, and riding the tractor back to the house with our pile of apples. We canned and froze the apples we couldn’t use, which was always a lot-we had cider, applesauce, and apple slices for pies year-round that way. But the best part was the smell of the apple pies we always baked with those fresh apples… It’s hard not to love cooking when you see the process of making your food start-to-finish!

  16. Jeannie says:
